We are delighted to boast a thriving, welcoming and fun membership experience for our members at Withington.

We have a growing women’s golf section of around 70 members of all ages and abilities, meaning that we are always very pleased to welcome newcomers both as 6 or 7 day members.

Whether you’re an established golfer or new to the sport WGC is a great place to play with a friendly and open atmosphere. New members are quickly welcomed into the club and we take great care to ensure that anyone who joins is helped to get the very best golfing experience whatever their playing level. We have many longstanding golfers who are always happy to dedicate time to welcoming new members, whether it’s marking a card for new handicappers or introducing new members to the course and our comps.

All 7 day members can play alongside each other in our Saturday competitions which makes it easy to quickly find friends and playing partners across both the men’s and women’s sections. 6 day members can play on Saturday afternoons after the allocated competition tee times meaning that there is always a vibrant social scene and lively atmosphere at the club over the weekend.

WGC is a very sociable and friendly club with lots of great competitions and events, with many mid-week and weekend opportunities to for everyone to play.

Club competitions: We have weekly club competitions on Saturdays (7 day membership only), Thursdays, with tee times up to 6pm in Summer, and some Sundays throughout the year. Members can also compete in club knockouts, a singles trophy (the Club Cup), and a doubles (four-ball) knock-out. We hold prize presentations throughout the season, and a Trophy Dinner in October to award the main prizes.

Regional competitions: The club enters many of the Cheshire and Manchester-wide competitions, including the East Cheshire Shield and Plate matches, Manchester and District Bell Cup, Business Ladies League, Elizabeth Wilson scratch knockout and the Scratch League.

Saturdays: Seven-day lady members play in competitions on a Saturday morning, with and alongside gentlemen members. Six-day members may play on a Saturday afternoon, after the competition, at no additional cost.

Socials: We run a number of social golfing events including a roll-up every Sunday at noon and Tuesday at 11am (where you turn up and play casually and your playing partners are selected at random), a weekend away, a mini-open, and fun monthly mixed golfing events. It’s not just about the golf though, and we also organise other social events, including dinners, picnic in the park, cheese and wine evenings, race nights, tribute acts, a Bridge drive, and a kids’ Christmas party to name just a few.
