LOCAL RULES

OUT OF BOUNDS
A ball lying beyond any boundary of course, i.e. boundary fences boundary hedges, boundary stream, on top or over the river bank, or beyond any line of white of stakes defined by the outside point of the stakes at ground level is out of bounds. A ball lying beyond the line of the posts defining the public footpath between the Clubhouse and the river bank
is out of bounds. A ball lying on or over the path between the clubhouse and the 2nd tee is out of bounds. The upper 1st tee is not out of bounds.
If a BALL IS OUT OF BOUNDS then a stroke and distance penalty must be applied.

PENALTY AREAS
Penalty areas are defined by red stakes. The edge of the penalty area is defined as the line between the outside point of the stakes at ground level. Relief should be taken under rule 17.1d.

OBSTRUCTIONS
Dropping zones can be used to take relief from the protective nets next to the second tee and on the practice ground. Loose impediments in bunkers can be removed without penalty, see rule 12.2a.  Wooden yardage markers are movable obstructions. Internal man-made paths, machinery, bridges, distance marker stones, tee markers, staked trees and wooden benches are immovable obstructions.

SPRINKLER HEADS
If a ball lies off the putting green but is not in a penalty area and a pop-up sprinkler head within two club lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follows: the ball may be lifted, cleaned and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay that is not nearer the hole and not on the putting green.

POWER LINES
If a ball strikes a power line at the 1st or 13th hole the player must disregard that stroke and, without penalty, play another ball as near as possible at the spot from which the original ball was played, see Rule 14.6.

TEMPORARY LOCAL RULES
Unusual ground conditions, such as tractor marks and drainage channels, where relief may be available, will be marked with a GUR notice or by white lines. Before starting a round, players should check the notice board outside the Professional's shop for any temporary local rules that may apply on the day of play
